RAB-7 has detained Md Azizul Haque, a notorious criminal from Raozan, during his appearance at the Chittagong Metropolitan District Sessions Judge Court.
The detainee is Md Azizul Haque, 50.
He faces over a dozen cases, including charges of murder, cases under the Arms Act, kidnapping, and robbery.
He is also listed as a top criminal by Raozan police, said Abdullah Al Harun, officer-in-charge of Raozan police station.
The arrest took place around 3pm on Sunday when Azizul appeared in court for a scheduled hearing.
Following his detention, he was handed over to Raozan police station and subsequently sent to jail, OC said.
In 2004, he was arrested by the army in possession of a large quantity of weapons in the Dabua Rubber Garden area of Raozan. Despite being imprisoned, he later resumed his criminal activities, allegedly under the protection of influential political figures.
One of the most heinous crimes linked to Azizul was the murder of Gyan Jyoti Bhikkhu, the director of a Buddhist orphanage, on April 11, 2002. Azizul reportedly slaughtered the monk in his room in Hingala, Raozan.
He has also been implicated in other violent incidents, including the hacking to death of siblings Titu and Bitu in Dabua and the 2003 daylight shooting of Sirajul Haque, the former chairman of Gahira Union.
The attack left Sirajul critically injured, leading to the amputation of both legs before his eventual death.
