Two probe committees formed over death of 3 IUT students in electrocution

Two probe committees have been formed over the death of three students of the Islamic University of Technology (IUT) when their picnic bus came into contact with a high-voltage electric line in Sreepur, Gazipur, on Saturday morning.

One committee was formed by the Gazipur Deputy Commissioner and the other by the university authorities.

Gazipur District Commissioner (DC) Nafisa Arefin and the university's Pro-Vice Chancellor Rakibul Islam confirmed the formation of these investigation committees.

The investigation committee formed by the Gazipur District Commissioner includes four members, with Gazipur’s Additional District Magistrate Salma Akter as the chairperson. The other members are Shreepur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Barrister Sajib Ahmed, Deputy General Manager (DGM) of Mymensingh Palli Bidyut Samiti-2 Khondokar Mahmudul Hasan, and another member whose name has not been disclosed.

On the other hand, the university's investigation committee, headed by Pro-Vice Chancellor and Head of the Electrical Department Rakibul Islam, consists of five members, including the Dean and Registrar of the university, along with two other officials.

Pro-Vice Chancellor Rakibul Islam stated that the university has used double-decker buses for picnics for years without incident.

He mentioned that it would be known after the investigation whether the incident was an accident.

Additional District Magistrate Salma Akter and Shreepur UNO Barrister Sajib Ahmed, along with other administrative officials, have visited the site of the incident.

Three students were killed, and at least 10 others injured, when their picnic bus came into contact with a high-voltage electric line in Sreepur, Gazipur, on Saturday morning.

The incident occurred around 8:30am in front of a local China factory in Udaikhali village under Telihati union.

Sreepur police rushed to the scene after being informed.

The deceased students were identified as Shakib, Mahin, and Mozammel, all third-year students of IUT.
