A readymade garments (RMG) factory workers blocked the Dhaka-Aricha highway in the Sreerampur area to demand justice following a road accident that resulted in the death of four workers.
The blockade, organized by employees of the Graphics Textile factory, began at around 9am and lasted for nearly two hours, causing significant traffic congestion on both sides of the road.
The workers' demands included compensation for the families of the deceased, medical treatment for the injured, transportation for workers, and a one-day holiday for the factory.
One worker said: "There are no vehicles for workers. We demand transportation for everyone."
A female worker added: "We have stopped working and are protesting on the road this morning. We need compensation for the deceased and proper medical care for the injured. The factory's transport is also not working, so we need a better transport system."
Eventually, factory officials and the local police arrived, speaking with the workers and persuading them to end the blockade.
The Dhammarai Industrial Police-1 Superintendent, Sarwar Alam, confirmed the incident, and said that the workers blocked the road for nearly two hours before being moved. A general holiday has been declared at the factory on Thursday.
