Workers of HDF Apparels Limited in Sreepur, Gazipur, staged a road blockade on Thursday after discovering a notice of indefinite factory closure.
The protest, held on Jainabazar-Kawraid road from 8am, caused significant traffic disruption. Workers claimed they had not received due benefits, including bonuses, allowances, and over a month’s salary.
Administrative Manager Shipu Chowdhury said the factory had been struggling with orders for four months and had relied on sub-contracts to sustain operations.
Despite management's promise to pay salaries by November 20, workers protested, prompting the factory’s closure per Bangladesh Labor Act, 2006 Section 13(1) for security concerns. Gazipur Industrial Police are on-site to address the situation.
Gazipur Industrial Police Inspector Abdul Latif said: “Our police are on their way to the site. At this moment, I cannot provide further information.”
