Students halt train services for 2hrs over seat shortage

Students from Khulna’s Government Brajalal (BL) College halted train services on the Khulna-Chilahati route for nearly two hours on Sunday night after failing to secure seats, causing inconvenience to several hundred passengers.

The incident took place around 9:15pm near Khulna Railway Station, with train services resuming around 11pm.

According to local sources, the Shimanto Express train arrived at the station with one fewer carriage due to a mechanical issue.

Around 30 BL College students, unable to find seats, blocked the railway track in front of the train’s engine, preventing it from departing.

Station Master Masud Rana confirmed: “Due to mechanical issues, a carriage on the Shimanto Express was removed, resulting in seating problems. Thirty out of 60 BL College students were left without seats, leading them to block the train’s departure.”

After discussions with railway authorities, alternative seating arrangements were made on other trains at various stations, allowing the Shimanto Express to leave by 11pm.
