Charmonai Pir: President should step down voluntarily to uphold dignity

Ameer of the Islamic Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) Mufti Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim, popularly known as Charmonai Pir, said that the president should step down on his own initiative to maintain dignity.

"He has lied and he has no moral legitimacy to remain in that position".

“To maintain dignity, he should resign on his own initiative. The student and public movement did not occur in accordance with the constitution, and therefore no one will be given the opportunity to create unrest by invoking the constitution.”

He made these remarks as the chief guest at a public meeting organized by the Jessore district branch of the IAB at the Town Hall field on Saturday.

The meeting was convened to demand justice for the mass killings that occurred during the student public uprising, confiscation of illegal assets of corrupt individuals, the introduction of a proportional representation electoral system, and the establishment of a welfare state.

IAB District President Mia Muhammad Abdul Halim presided over the event.

Rezaul Karim remarked: “The three fundamental aspirations for which the country was liberated have still not been realized even after 53 years of independence. Instead, the ruling political parties have labeled the country as the top nation of thieves five times. Still, self-serving political parties want to lead the country down that path, but it will never be allowed to happen.”

The Charmonai Pir emphasized the need to establish a proportional representation (PR) electoral system or a national government system to create a welfare state.

He asserted that this is essential for fulfilling the aspirations of the people and preventing anyone from becoming fascist.

The rally also featured speeches from senior joint secretary Maulana Gazi Ataur Rahman, Khulna divisional organizational secretary Maulana Shuaib Hossain, advisor Principal Najmul Huda, and leaders from district and upazila committees.
