A case has been filed against the Secretary-General of the Jatiya Party (JP), Mohammad Mujibul Haque Chunnu, for his alleged involvement in an attack on an Anti-Discrimination Student Movement protest in Kishoreganj.
Alongside him, 81 others, including former chief coordinator of the International Crimes Tribunal’s investigation agency, Sanaual Haque, have been named in the case. Additionally, another 270 unidentified individuals have been implicated.
Mohammad Shahab Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Karimganj police station, confirmed the case on Thursday.
He said that the case was filed on Wednesday night by Omar Kaiyum, the president of the Kadirjangal Union unit BNP. No arrests have been made so far, but efforts are underway to apprehend those involved.
According to the case statement, on August 4, during a rally of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Karimganj Bazaar, leaders and activists from the Awami League, Jubo League, Chhatra League, and the Jatiya Party participated in the attack.
Chunnu, a former MP for Kishoreganj-3 (Karimganj-Tarai), and Sanaual Haque allegedly provided direct and indirect encouragement, direction, and financial assistance for the attackers, who came armed with shotguns, grenades, and explosives.
The attackers set fire to the protesters' motorcycles, causing damage worth around Tk4.5 lakh. Many were seriously injured during the attack.
