Body of missing college principal found at DMCH

The body of Md Fazlur Rahman, principal of Nabiganj Government College in Habiganj, was found at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) two days after his disappearance.

The incident has sparked widespread concern in the local community, with his colleagues demanding a fair investigation to determine the cause of his death.

Nabiganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kamal Hossain confirmed that a general diary (GD) had been filed regarding the disappearance of Fazlur Rahman on Sunday night.

Just hours after the GD was made, police were informed that his body had been found at DMCH, and the family was notified.

According to police and local sources, Fazlur Rahman had faced allegations of various irregularities, including the excessive collection of admission fees from first-year honours students.

On Thursday, students locked him in his office for an hour and a half in protest. Police and teachers intervened, releasing the principal, who promised to address the students' concerns on Sunday.

However, he left his home on Osmani Road in Nabiganj on Friday morning for Brahmanbaria and had not been heard from since.

On Sunday, students once again occupied the college, blocking other teachers in protest over Fazlur Rahman's absence.

Teachers informed the students that the principal had been missing for two days, prompting Md Amir Hossain, secretary of the Nabiganj Government College Teachers' Council, to notify the Upazila Nirbahi Officer.

Fazlur Rahman’s wife, Syeda Sultana Akhtar, also filed a GD at Nabiganj police station on Sunday, detailing her husband’s disappearance.

She mentioned that he had left home around 8am on Friday for Brahmanbaria but had not returned, and his mobile phone was switched off.

Later in the evening, Sub-Inspector Abdul Khalek of Shahbagh police station in Dhaka informed that Fazlur Rahman’s body had been found in the DMCH morgue.

According to SI Khalek, a man named Zahir had admitted Fazlur to the hospital's emergency department in an unconscious state on Friday evening. He passed away at 7am the next day while receiving treatment.

It is suspected that robbers might have drugged Fazlur Rahman and looted his belongings. However, the exact cause of death will only be confirmed after an autopsy.
