Protesters from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement have laid siege to the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Headquarters, protesting a sudden procession by members of the Chhatra League on Friday night.
The students accused the police of inaction, allowing the Chhatra League, the student wing of the ruling Awami League, to hold their demonstration in the port city.
On Saturday afternoon, scores of protesters gathered in the Dampara area of Chittagong, chanting slogans against the Awami League and the police.
Their protest followed the circulation of videos on social media, shared by the official page of the Bangladesh Awami League, showing the Chhatra League's march the previous night.
The demonstration sparked sharp criticism from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, whose leaders accused the Awami League of taking advantage of the police's inaction to stage the protest.
Rasel Ahmed, a coordinator of the movement, strongly condemned the march.
The Hasina government was toppled on August 5 in a mass student uprising, with the Awami League last publicly seen on the streets of Chittagong the day before, on August 4.
