Sad Al Afnan Patwary, who was shot and killed during the anti-discrimination movement in Lakshmipur, has passed the HSC exams with a GPA of 4.17.
His mother, Nasima Akhtar, confirmed this on Tuesday afternoon.
Afnan participated in the HSC exams from the Science Department of Lakshmipur Victory College.
He was the son of the late Saleh Ahmed, residing in the Bus Terminal area of Banchanagar village in Lakshmipur municipality.
Enamul Haque, the coordinator for the anti-discrimination movement in Lakshmipur, said: “Afnan is Lakshmipur's first martyr. He successfully passed the HSC. We pray that Allah grants him success in the afterlife, just as he had in this world.”
Another coordinator, Arman Hossain, said: “Martyr Afnan achieved a GPA of 4.17, proving his intellect. This shows that true talents have led this movement.”
His mother, Nasima Akter said: “My son’s good results bring me joy. But the one I would celebrate with is no longer with me. They shot my son dead and left my arms empty.”
Harunur Rashid, the principal of Lakshmipur Victory College, said: “Afnan performed well, which is a source of happiness. However, he is no longer among us, and our hearts are heavy.”
Afnan was shot and killed on August 4 while participating in the anti-discrimination student movement near the Madam Bridge area of Lakshmipur.
Later, on August 14, his mother, Nasima Akter, filed a case naming A K M Salah Uddin Tipu, the Chairman of the Sadar Upazila Parishad and former President of the Jubo League, as the main accused.
The case includes 75 named individuals and 500-600 unidentified persons as defendants.
