A mentally unstable young woman, Ruhela Akter Lubna, 22, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting children at a puja mandap in the Kulaura upazila, Moulvibazar.
Lubna was taken into custody on Sunday from the temple located in the Bijoya tea garden of Joychandi union.
She is the wife of Alamin from Rangpur district and has her maternal home in the Kamarkandi area of Joychandi.
According to police reports, Lubna had come to visit her maternal home last week. On Saturday night, a night guard at the Bijoya tea garden noticed her and notified the police. Officers on duty subsequently placed her in a safe location beside the garden for the night.
Early the next morning, Lubna reportedly entered the temple and assaulted children. Bystanders witnessed the incident, detained her, and informed the police.
Around noon, Kulaura Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammad Mohiuddin, Assistant Commissioner Shah Zahurul Hossain, and Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Golam Appsar, along with police and army officials, arrived at the scene to manage the situation and arrest Lubna.
Police Inspector (Investigation) Mohammad Abdur Razzaq said that Lubna has been sent to a magistrate court following her arrest. He reiterated that she is mentally unstable.
