Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Asif Nazrul has said the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is set to be formed within two days.
He said: “We will give the most importance to the July genocide. Other genocides that have taken place in Bangladesh will also be prosecuted. BDR killings, Shapla Chattar killings, many people have been victims of disappearance. Everything will be brought to justice one by one”.
He said this at a memorial meeting on the occasion of the 10th death anniversary of Professor Piash Karim at the Central Shaheed Minar on Saturday.
Asif Nazrul further said: "Banning Chhatra League has become a popular demand in Bangladesh. We will not ban anything like the fascist government of the time. There is a law banning it as a terrorist organization in Bangladesh. We expect to be banned under that law. We will not ban anyone by oppression. We believe we can ban it legally”.
Remembering the late Professor Piash Karim, he said: "I was shocked to hear about the death of Piash Karim Bhai at that time. His namaz-e-janaza was held in Dhanmondi. We wanted to hold the namaz-e-janaza of Piash Karim Bhai at the Shaheed Minar. The university administration did not allow his body to be brought here (Shaheed Minar).”
Political analyst Jahed Ur Rahman said: "We will keep the memory of Piash Karim alive. We will document Piash Karim's life, work and what he said. We have to keep alive the courage that Pias Karim has given us for a long time”.
At the meeting, Gono Odhikar Parishad Secretary Rashed Khan demanded a ban on Chhatra League. "We have a demand for Asif Nazrul. Chhatra League must be banned as a student organization. You are in the government, we are your students. You will fulfill the demands of these students”.
Media personality Sayantha Shakhawat, writer and human rights activist Mahmud Saikat, online activist Sayeed Abdullah and others spoke at the memorial meeting.
