2 college students die of alleged alcohol poisoning in Faridpur

Two college students in Faridpur have allegedly died due to alcohol poisoning.

The deceased are Pooja Biswas,20, an honours first-year student and daughter of Sadhan Biswas from Debila village in Shalikha upazila of Magura district, and Ratna Saha,26, a degree student of Government Rajendra College and daughter of Ratan Kumar Saha from Ward 4, Amgram area of Boalmari upazila in Faridpur.

According to the families of the deceased and hospital sources, the two students of Government Rajendra College lived in a rented house at Kanai Matbar Mor in Alipur, Faridpur.

On Friday evening, they returned home after attending a festival and fell ill.

Bithi Saha, another employed woman living with them, reported that as their condition deteriorated, they were taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital around midnight.

Hospital sources said that one of them was brought to the hospital already deceased, while the other died during treatment around 4 am.

Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Asaduzzaman said that the hospital informed them in the morning that the two women had died from alcohol consumption.

Pooja and Ratna had gone out to attend a festival the previous evening, and after returning home around 10pm, they fell ill.

Bithi, their aunt, initially took them to Faridpur General Hospital and then to Faridpur Medical College Hospital, where both of them passed away.

The bodies have been sent to the morgue of Faridpur Medical College Hospital for autopsy.

The exact cause of death will be determined after the post-mortem.
