An initiative has been taken in Rajshahi to sell sliced ilish, providing a special opportunity for low-income people.
Through this initiative, buyers will even be able to purchase a single piece of fish.
From Thursday, sliced ilish will be available at Saheb Bazar fish market.
The Saheb Bazar Fish Traders' Association is launching this system, where the price of ilish will be set per kilogram.
Traders believe that this is a good initiative, especially for poor people during the Durga Puja festival.
Sekendar Ali, the General Secretary of the Rajshahi Traders' Coordination Council, said that this is the first such initiative in Bangladesh, starting from Rajshahi.
The price of the fish will be determined by weight, and the portion that a buyer selects will be charged accordingly.
Even a single piece can be purchased.
Sekendar Ali further stated: "There are poor people who cannot afford to eat even a single piece of ilish in an entire year. This decision has been made with them in mind. Additionally, with Durga Puja ongoing, we have discussed with traders about selling sliced ilish during this time. The ilish traders have also agreed."
According to the market prices in Rajshahi, a 300-gram ilish is being sold at Tk600 , a 500-gram ilish for Tk1,100 , an 800-gram ilish for Tk1,500, and a 1-kilogram ilish for Tk1,600 per kilogram.
