The death toll in Sherpur amid flooding rose to eight on Sunday with over 200,000 people severely affected.
The Bangladesh Water Development Board said floodwaters would decrease as the sun came out and rainfall subsided in the afternoon.
Locals said continuous rain since Thursday night and water from upstream had flooded three upazilas in Sherpur near the Indian border.
Low-lying areas continued to be flooded, and new areas were becoming submerged, increasing the number of affected people, they added.
Over 200 villages are underwater, roads are submerged and many are seeking shelter in relief centres as their homes are flooded.
Residents said food shortages had emerged and relief aid had not yet reached some remote areas due to the lack of transportation.
Nalitabari police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sanowar Hossain said six deaths had been reported in the upazila so far, with one person still missing.
Meanwhile, in flood-affected Nokla upazila, OC Habibur Rahman confirmed two more deaths.
According to the district's agriculture office, about 35,000 hectares of Aman rice fields have been submerged, along with 900 hectares of vegetable crops.
Nakibuzzaman Khan, executive engineer of the BWDB’s Sherpur office, said water levels in all rivers were expected to decrease by Monday, improving the flood situation.
