Over 100 houses in the low-lying areas of Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram have been inundated as heavy rainfall and upstream floods have continuously raised the Teesta's water levels.
There are also reports of riverbank erosion.
The water level of the Dharla and Brahmaputra rivers in Kurigram has also increased.
Due to the sustained increase in water levels, the Teesta river's water has approached close to the danger level at the Kaunia Bridge point in Rangpur.
According to Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre report, the water level of the Teesta River continued to rise, flowing just 1cm below the danger level at the Kaunia point as of 6pm on Saturday.
The water levels of the Teesta, Dharla, and Dudhkumar rivers may continue to rise for the next 18 hours. During this time, the Teesta's water may exceed the danger level and flood the lower areas.
According to the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB), the water is expected to recede afterwards.
Meanwhile, as the water levels continue to rise, several homes in wards no 5 and no 8 of the Ghariyaldanga union in Rajarhat have been reported to be flooded.
