A mahout named Nazrul Islam, 35, was tragically killed after being trampled by an elephant in Kotalipara, Gopalganj.
The incident took place around 9:30am on Tuesday in Polsair village, Hiron Union, Kotalipara Upazila.
Nazrul Islam, hailing from Mogalbasa village in Kurigram Sadar Upazila, Kurigram district, was reportedly thrown off the elephant’s back before being trampled to death on the spot.
District Forest Officer of Gopalganj, Bibekananda Mallik, said that a specialized team, including a veterinarian, has already been dispatched from Gazipur to bring the elephant under control. The team is expected to arrive soon to subdue the animal.
Confirming the incident, Kotalipara police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Abul Kalam Azad, said that the body of Nazrul Islam will be handed over to his family following the completion of the post-mortem.
