Over 100 houses gutted in Gazipur colony fire

A fire that broke out in a colony in the Ambagan area of Mauchak in Kaliganj, Gazipur, gutted over a hundred houses.

Four units of the fire service managed to bring the fire under control after about an hour of effort.

The fire started around 7:15pm on Monday and was controlled by shortly after 8pm, according to Abdullah Al Arefin, Deputy Assistant Director of Gazipur Fire Service.

Locals reported that the fire originated from Sultan Mia's house in the Ambagan area of Mauchak. The flames quickly spread to nearby houses, destroying 45 houses of Sultan Mia's, 35 of Akhil Mia's, and 25 belonging to Shahadat Hossain.

The affected houses were rented by factory workers, most of whom were at work and unable to salvage any belongings.

Abdullah Al Arefin stated: "Upon receiving the news, two units from the Konabari Modern Fire Station and two units from the Kaliganj Fire Station rushed to the scene and controlled the fire within an hour.

It is initially suspected that the fire may have originated from a gas cylinder. Fortunately, there were no casualties. The extent of the damage will be assessed later."
