Karnafuli Paper Mills resumes production after 2 months

Karnaphuli Paper Mills Ltd, a government-owned paper pulp and paper manufacturer in Chandraghona union of Rangamati, has resumed operations after a two-month shutdown.

The mill's managing director, Md Abdul Hakim, said KPM resumed production on Wednesday night overcoming all challenges.

Paper production at the factory had been halted since July 20 due to a shortage of raw materials.

Established in 1953 on 400 acres of land, the mill has been suffering losses for years due to inadequate production.

Abdul Razzak, president of the KPM Workers and Employees Union, said: "On behalf of all workers and employees, we sincerely thank the industries adviser, BCIC authorities and KPM management. We hope the mill will once again operate at full capacity and become a profitable enterprise."

The factory, originally built based on the easy availability of bamboo and trees, now relies on imported pulp.
