On August 22, Lieutenant Colonel Md Maksudul Alam of the 10th Bengal Regiment filed a case against over 3,000 people at Gopalganj Sadar police station over the attack and vandalism.

According to the case statement, on the afternoon of August 10, thousands of Awami League leaders, activists, and locals gathered to protest and block the Dhaka-Khulna highway, demanding the return of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina to the country.

Upon receiving the news, army personnel on duty in Gopalganj went to the spot and asked them to leave the highway and conduct their protest peacefully. However, the protesters got into an argument with the army personnel, which escalated into an attack on the soldiers.
