The body of one Jasim Uddin, who was killed by police gunfire during the quota reform protests in Bhola, was exhumed Monday, 29 days after his burial.
The exhumation took place at the Chhoto Algi village graveyard in the presence of a magistrate and police officers.
Jasim Uddin's wife, father-in-law, his children, other family members and locals were also present during the exhumation.
The body was later sent to Bhola Sadar Hospital for an autopsy.
The investigation officer of the case alleged that Jasim's body was buried without an autopsy. Following this, an application was submitted to Bhola Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Asim Kumar De's court, and the judge ordered the exhumation for an autopsy.
On August 4, during a student-public protest demanding quota reform in the Naya Bazar area in Bhola, Jasim, an umbrella repairman, was fatally shot by police firing.
Upon receiving the news, Jasim’s family, locals, and protestors recovered his body and brought it to his home.
As the police did not initiate any steps for an autopsy after the incident, the body was buried in the graveyard after namaz-e-janaza.
Later that night, Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Rubel of Bhola Sadar Model police station filed a murder case against unknown individuals.
