Death toll rises to 23 in Feni flood

The death toll in the recent flash floods in Feni has risen to 23, according to district administration sources as of Friday night.

The floods, caused by the upwelling of water from India and heavy rains, have submerged six upazilas, leaving hundreds of thousands of people stranded.

The first fatality was reported on the night of August 24, when locals discovered a body floating in knee-deep water in front of Sonali Bank on Mizan Road in Feni.

The following day, the body of a child was found in the floodwaters in North Gobindpur village of the Lalpol area in Feni Sadar upazila.

The flooding began on the afternoon of August 20, rapidly worsening by the next day.

The upazilas of Parshuram, Phulgazi, and Chagalnaya were the most affected.

However, the floodwaters soon spread to Feni Sadar, Sonagazi, and Daganbhuiyan, creating a severe humanitarian crisis for the residents of Feni.
