An attempted murder case has been filed against 196 people, including the Chairman of Bashundhara Group, Ahmed Akbar Sobhan, and Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir.
The Complaint Register Case (CR case) was lodged by Samiul Alim Akkas, the organizational secretary of the Shibganj upazila Jubo Dal, at the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in Bogra on Thursday afternoon.
Judge Sukanta Saha accepted the complaint and directed the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibganj police station to record it as a case.
Abdul Wahab, the acting general secretary of Shibganj Upazila BNP and the plaintiff's lawyer, confirmed the matter.
Shibganj police station OC Abdur Rauf said: "We received the court's order on Friday morning, and we will begin recording and arresting the accused."
The principal accused in the case is former additional DIG Abdul Kahar Akand, the investigating officer of the August 21 grenade attack and the BDR murder case.
Other prominent accused include joint general secretary of Awami League Mahbubul Alam Hanif, former head of news at Bangladeshi broadcaster Ekattor TV Shakil Ahmed, former Sub-Registrar Shah Alam, his wife, former BNP leader Beauty Begum, and others.
According to the case statement, on August 5, a student and public procession was held at Nagar Bazar in Shibganj upazila in solidarity with the students’ one-point movement to overthrow the Sheikh Hasina government.
At that time, at the behest of the accused former sub-registrar Shah Alam and his wife Beauty Begum, several people attacked the demonstrators. They allegedly carried out a bomb attack and fired gunshots at the procession.
Musfiqur Rahman, who was seriously injured, was admitted to TMSS Medical College and Rafatullah Community Hospital in Bogra. He later recovered and returned home.
