Another case has been filed against former Member of Parliament for Chittagong-6, ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, and his son Faraz Karim Chowdhury in Raozan of Chittagong.
The allegation has been brought against them of vandalism and looting of an office of a Tablighi organization five years ago.
The charges in the complaint include the demolition of Muniriya Jubo Tabligh Committee's office and prayer hall, vandalizm of business establishments, theft of cash, embezzlement of important documents and assets, arson, and attempts to murder, reports Prothom Alo.
The case was recorded at Raozan police station on Tuesday afternoon, according to the investigation officer Siddiqur Rahman.
The complaint was filed by Mohammad Johel Uddin, a resident of Yasin Nagar in Haldia Union of Raozan, and vice-president of the Fakir Tila branch of Muniriya Youth Tabligh Committee.
This is the fourth case against the former ruling party MP since the government change.
ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury has been named the prime accused in the case.
The former MP was a vice-president of the North District Awami League, and his son Faraz Karim Chowdhury is an executive member of the Upazila Awami League.
The case also names former Chairman of Raozan Upazila Parishad, AKM Ehsanul Haider Chowdhury, Mayor of Raozan Municipality, Zahir Uddin Parvez, Panel Mayor Bashir Uddin Khan, and Councilor Kazi Iqbal, among 46 named defendants.
Additionally, 20 to 30 unnamed individuals are listed as suspects.
According to the complaint, on April 19, 2019, after 6pm, the accused, under the direction of ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, carried out terrorist activities at the scene with premeditation. They carried out the attack with local weapons and a bulldozer.
They fired blank shots in front of the Fakir Tila branch (prayer hall) of Muniriya Youth Tabligh Committee to instill fear. They then used iron rods to break the branch's digital signboard, doors, windows, and glass. The bulldozer was used to demolish the one-story building of the branch and four rental shops.
The attackers allegedly stole around Tk10 lakh worth of goods from nearby shops and set fire to the prayer hall and office by sprinkling gunpowder inside, causing damage estimated at around Tk50 lakh.
The complainant, Mohammad Johel Uddin, stated that the office and prayer hall are now in a dilapidated condition.
The delay in filing the case was due to the lack of assistance from local authorities at the time of the incident.
Furthermore, since the event, members of the organization have not been allowed to stay in the area, according to the complainant.
