Habiganj district BNP convener expelled over misconduct

The convener of the BNP’s Habiganj district unit has been expelled from the party over allegations of misconduct.

The decision to expel Md Abul Hasim from both his party position and general membership was confirmed in a letter issued by BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Thursday.

According to a senior BNP leader in the district, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, the party is taking a firm stance against any form of wrongdoing.

"Our acting chairman has issued a strict directive—no one will be spared for any kind of misconduct," the leader said.

The incident in question involves Hasim reportedly appointing his nephew, Fazle Rabbi Russell, a local Awami League leader, as the caretaker of a market in Alipur, Shayestaganj. The act of putting up a banner to this effect was deemed inappropriate and against the party’s principles. "There is no place for wrongdoing in our party," the leader added.

The official expulsion notice cited a breach of party discipline and activities contrary to the party's ideals, values and solidarity as the reasons for his removal.
