Miscreants attacked, vandalized, and set fire to at least six police stations in Chittagong, looting weapons, bullets, and various equipment.
Additionally, homes and offices of Awami League leaders and activists were targetted.
Since Monday afternoon, following reports of Sheikh Hasina's resignation, agitated crowds have taken to the streets in celebration.
Later, police stations in Chandgaon, Patenga, EPZ, Kotowali, Akbar Shah, and Pahartali under the Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) were attacked, vandalized, and set on fire. During these assaults, police weapons, ammunition, and other equipment were looted. Several policemen sustained injuries in the attacks.
Around 5pm., attackers attempted to breach the main gate of the Chittagong Metropolitan Police Lines in Dampara. Police responded with tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd.
Hundreds of people then gathered in front of the main gate of the Dampara Police Lines, attacking and attempting to force entry. Police urged the crowd to leave, but the agitated group began pelting bricks at the police commissioner's office.
In another incident, Chittagong Central Jail in the Laldighi area was also attacked. Prison guards fired from inside to fend off the miscreants.
Around 5pm, the Chittagong District Police Lines in the Chotopul area of Halishahar were also attacked.
Meanwhile, the residence of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor M Rezaul Karim Chowdhury was attacked and set ablaze following news of the government's fall.
Jubo League leader Helal Akbar Babar's house also came under attack.
A group targeted the residence of CCC ward number 10 Councilor Nichar Uddin Manju. He went to the roof of his house and apologized to the crowd, after which the attackers ransacked his home and left.
The office of city Awami League vice-president Altaf Hossain Bachchu was vandalized, and a group set fire to the party office at Darul Fazal Market from the Newmarket intersection.
Miscreants then set fire to the residence of ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury, Member of Parliament for Raojan, at Patharghata, behind Kotwali police station, around 5pm.
Meanwhile, people from all walks of life are marching towards the port city of Chittagong, distributing sweets in celebration.
Following reports that Sheikh Hasina had left the country, cheerful crowds took to the streets.
Meanwhile, a joyous procession began at 3pm., spreading through Muradpur, GEC, Sholshahar, Kazir Dewri, Jamalkhan, Bahaddarhat, Agrabad, Dewanhat, Chowkbazar, and every alley of the city.
