Rajshahi University students blocked the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway on Monday to press home their nine-point demand, including proper investigation and trial for those responsible for the deaths during the quota reform protests last week.
Fahim Reza, the coordinator of the anti-discrimination movement at Rajshahi University, said: "We are protesting today (Monday) across Bangladesh for two main reasons: to press our nine-point demands and protesting that our central coordinators were forced to read out the statement at gunpoint."
Prof Dr Saleh Hasan Nakib, Prof Dr Iftikharul Alam Masud, Prof Dr Mohammad Jamirul Islam and Prof Dr Saiful Islam of the university took part in the demonstration to express solidarity.
The protesting students staged a demonstration in front of the university's main gate. Later, they took position on the Dhaka-Rajshahi highway, halting traffic.
The students said they paraded different roads with a procession adjacent to the campus and then staged demonstrations.
They said they would continue their movement until their demands are met.
Meanwhile, the BGB and police are on high alert. Members of law enforcement agencies were seen at various points in the city.
