A total of 847 individuals were arrested in the Chittagong Metropolitan area and district from the night of July 16 until 8am on Saturday.
Following another case filed on charges of vandalism in Chittagong's Akbarshah area, 37 individuals have been accused, with an additional 70 to 75 unidentified persons also mentioned in the case, said Golam Rabbani, officer-in-charge of Akbarshah police station.
He said that individuals gathered at Pakka Rastar Mor in the Akbarshah police station area were attempting acts of sabotage related to the quota movement. The police have filed a case as the complainant in this incident.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police's Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) Kazi Md Tarek Aziz said: "Nineteen cases have been filed in the Chittagong Metropolitan area in connection with the quota protest, murder, criminal activities, and sabotage. A total of 476 individuals, including 27 in the last 24 hours, have been arrested in these cases."
Meanwhile, Chittagong district police's Additional Superintendent (DSB) Abu Tayeb Md Arif Hossain said: "Eleven cases have been registered in Chittagong regarding attacks and vandalism related to the quota movement. A total of 371 individuals, including 17 in the last 24 hours, have been arrested in these cases."
