The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against MM Jamil Ahmed, deputy general manager (DGM) of Bangladesh House Building Finance Corporation, Barisal.
The complaint was filed by ACC Assistant Director Ashikur Rahman.
ACC Public Relations Officer Aktarul Islam told Dhaka Tribune on Thursday: “The commission has taken this step to uphold integrity and accountability in public services. The investigation continues as legal proceedings are initiated against the accused."
According to the case details, MM Jamil Ahmed, son of the late Akman Uddin Mina, falsely claimed his father was a genuine freedom fighter in order to obtain a freedom fighter certificate.
Using this certificate, he secured a job at the Bangladesh House Building Corporation under the freedom fighter quota.
From April 2000 to December 2023, he is accused of embezzling a total of Tk13,176,734 in salary and allowances.
This act constitutes punishable offenses under sections 420/409 of the Penal Code and section 5(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1947.
