Four cases have been filed in connection with the anti-quota movement clashes in Chittagong. Over 7,000 unidentified individuals have been charged in these cases.
Following the clashes, police launched an overnight mass arrest operation across the city, resulting in 88 arrests.
The police said that the process of detaining and presenting these individuals in court is ongoing.
Three cases were registered at Panchlaish police station and one at Khulshi police station on Wednesday afternoon, said Santosh Kumar Chakma, officer-in-charge (OC) of Panchlaish police station.
He said that the police filed two separate cases under the Explosives Act, including charges of murder, rioting, and obstruction of public works.
Additionally, the mother of Emon Dhor, who is receiving treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital (CMCH) after being injured in the attack, filed another case.
Between 100 and 150 people have been indicted in each of the two cases filed on charges of explosives and assault. In total, at least 6,000 to 6,500 people have been accused in three cases, OC said.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Khulshi Police Station, Sheikh Mohammad Niamat Ullah, said that Shahed Ali, who was injured in the attack and is undergoing treatment at CMCH, filed a case. This case accuses 500 to 600 unidentified individuals.
According to information provided by the four deputy commissioners of the city police, a total of 88 people were arrested during the night raid across 16 police stations in the city.
In the South Zone, a total of 12 people were arrested from Kotwali, Chawkbazar, Bakalia, and Sadarghat police stations.
In the North Zone, six people were arrested, including one from Panchlaish police station, two from Khulshi police station, and three from Bayezid Bostami police station.
In the West Zone, 54 people were arrested, including 16 from Doublemooring police station, 10 from Pahartali police station, five from Akbar Shah police station, and 23 from Halishahar police station.
In the Bandar Zone, a total of 16 people were arrested, including five from Karnaphuli police station, four from EPZ police station, and four from Patenga police station.
