A Comilla court on Monday framed charges against Khelafat Majlis leaders Maulana Mamunul Haque and Khaled Saifullah Ayyubi in a case filed over his provocative sermons at a program.
The duo were indicted after a hearing at the Court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Farida Yasmin, defence lawyer Jasim Uddin Chowdhury said.
After the charges were read, Mamunul and Khaled pleaded not guilty and claimed that the allegations brought against them were false and fabricated.
Mamunul made the remarks at a religious program in Joag Paschimpara area of Chandina on December 15, 2020. Police later filed the case against six people, including the organizer and the guests, on December 17.
Mamunul, the secretary general of Khelafat Majlis and former joint secretary general of Hefazt-e-Islam, was released from jail after nearly three years on May 3. Arrested on April 18, 2021, he is facing at least 41 cases filed with different police stations.
