A Rohingya security guard was killed and two others injured in a gunfight between Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (Arsa) and Rohingya Solidarity Organization (RSO) in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar around Monday midnight.
The deceased was Md Salim, 30, additional deputy inspector general Md Amir Zafar, commanding officer of Armed Police Battalion-8 (APBn), said.
Md Yunus and Sobi Ullah from the same camp were injured.
All three were working as security guards in the Rohingya camp.
Quoting local sources, Amir Jafar said: “A gunfight erupted between the Myanmar-based armed terrorist groups Arsa and RSO in the Balur Math area. Upon receiving the news, a team from the APBn rushed to the spot, making the criminals flee the area. Later, the situation was brought under control, and one person was found dead, and two injured were rescued from the scene.”
The injured were taken to a hospital adjacent to the Kutupalong Rohingya camp for treatment, the senior police officer said.
Amir Jafar indicated that the police initially suspected the killings resulted from a clash over dominance. Police are conducting operations to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.
Ukhiya police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Shamim Hossain said: “The body was recovered from the scene and sent to the morgue of Cox's Bazar sadar Hospital for autopsy."
