Agents among 3 jailed over irregularities in Brahmanbaria

A mobile court sentenced two polling agents for illegally keeping mobile phones during polling and another individual for entering a polling centre without being a voter in Bijoynagar, Brahmanbaria, on Wednesday.

Polling agents Harun Mia, 24, and Shahana Begum, 52, were detained for carrying mobile phones despite explicit prohibitions from the presiding officer and police at the women’s polling station of Chhatarpur High School in Bijoynagar upazila.

Both were sentenced to three days' imprisonment under Section 188 of the Penal Code, 1860.

The mobile court was conducted by Nasirnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Muhammad Imranul Haque Bhuiyan.

In a separate incident at the Aulia Bazar Mohammadia Alim Madrasa centre in Paharpur Union, Md Kausar Mia, 32, was sentenced to five days' imprisonment for illegally entering the polling station despite not being a voter of that centre.

The operation was conducted by Executive Magistrate Md Moinuddin Khandaker.

Returning Officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Md Abdullah Al Mamun said that the mobile court operations against any malpractices will continue throughout the entire polling period.
