A one-and-a-half-year-old child died without receiving treatment as his family members were not allowed to leave by authorities at a Manikganj hospital due to an unpaid bill of Tk 3,000.
The incident took place at Monno Medical College and Hospital around 11am on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Rezuan, the son of Sohel Gazi from the Bokchar area of Shibalaya upazila.
He was admitted to the hospital around 2am on Saturday due to breathing problems.
On Sunday morning, a doctor at the hospital referred him to Dhaka for better treatment.
However, Rezuan's relatives could not pay the Tk3,000 hospital bill and were detained by the authorities.
Abu Hossain, uncle of the deceased, alleged that Rezuan received no treatment during this time, causing his condition to worsen and ultimately leading to his death.
Later, the relatives of the deceased protested inside the hospital expressing anger over the incident.
In this regard, Monno Medical College and Hospital Director Dr Md Jahangir Alam said that appropriate action will be taken against the culprits after investigating the matter.
Sukumar Biswas, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ghior police station said that legal action will be taken after investigation.
