A traffic inspector died of a heatstroke at Sonamasjid land port of Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj on Thursday.
The deceased is Ruhul Amin, 42, son of Korban Ali of Benapole area of Sharsha upazila in Jessore.
He fell seriously ill while on duty at Panama Sonamasjid Port Link Limited around 12:30pm on Thursday.
Later, his colleagues rushed him to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex where the doctor on duty declared him dead.
Md Tipu Sultan, senior manager of Panama Port Link Limited, said that Ruhul Amin had been on duty at the port since morning. He fainted as soon as he asked for water around noon.
He added that Ruhul Amin was sent to the hospital in the port car. He fell ill due to extreme heat.
Shibganj police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sajjad Hossain confirmed the information, adding that the body will be handed over to his family after the legal process.
Chapainawabganj Civil Surgeon SM Mahmudur Rashid said that traffic inspector Ruhul Amin died before he was brought to Shibganj Upazila Health Complex. Those who brought him to the hospital said he was thirsty and wanted to drink water.
Al-Aqsa Mahal, the doctor in charge of Shibganj Upazila Health Complex, said that Ruhul Amin was brought to the hospital in a dead state. An ECG later showed that he had died of a stroke.
