A court has sentenced a madrasa teacher to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for attempting to rape a minor student in Naogaon.
Naogaon Women and Child Suppression Tribunal-2 Judge Md Mehdi Hasan Talukder gave this judgment in the presence of the accused on Wednesday.
In addition to imprisonment, the accused was ordered to pay a fine of Tk50,000 to the survivor's family.
A minor girl from North Pakuria village of Dalgachi upazila used to study Arabic with other children from Madrasa teacher Abul Hasan, 25, of the same village.
On May 29, 2021, she went to teacher Abul Hasan's house to study at 6am. At that time Abul Hasan tried to rape her. When the girl started shouting, locals gathered.
The girl's mother filed a complaint at the Badalgachi police station. After the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against the accused as the allegations were found to be true.
The court has so far accepted the testimony of a total of 8 witnesses. The judge passed this verdict as the charges were proved beyond doubt.
Advocate Azizul Haque for the State and Advocate Mamunur Rashid for the accused handled the case.
