Comilla mayor vows to improve traffic situation in city

Newly elected Comilla city Mayor Tahseen Bahar Shuchona has said that her prime agenda is to improve the traffic situation of the city.

She sought everyone’s cooperation in making Comilla a corruption-free city after taking charge as the mayor of Comilla on Monday.

On March 9, Shuchona won the Comilla mayoral by-polls, beating her nearest opponent Monirul Hoque Sakku by a margin of 21,993 votes.

Shuchona, daughter of Comilla-6 (Sadar) lawmaker and President of Comilla city unit Awami League AKM Baha Uddin Bahar, secured 48,890 votes.

Later on April 4, she took oath of office.

At a ceremony on Monday, acting mayor Habibur Al-Amin Sadi handed over the responsibilities to Suchona at the city corporation building.

Shuchona’s mother Mehrunnesa Bahar was present during the ceremony.

The new mayor prayed for the salvation of the soul of late mayor Arfanul Haque Rifat and thanked her voters for having faith in her.

She said that she grew up seeing her father frequenting this building; and that she was lucky to be able to serve the people.

During her speech, Shuchona said that her office would do the needful to fight the existing problems including traffic congestion and waterlogging.

At the same time, she promised to keep corruption and nepotism away from the city corporation.
