Probe body formed in Gazipur gas cylinder explosion

A three-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the gas cylinder explosion incident in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur on Wednesday.

“The committee has been asked to submit its report within the next three working days,” Gazipur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abul Fateh Md Shafiqul Islam said after visiting the incident spot on Thursday.

Humayun Kabir, additional district magistrate of Gazipur, will lead the committee. The other members of the committee are Kaliakair Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Kawsar Ahammad and Gazipur Fire Service Deputy Director Abdullah Al Arifin.

Gazipur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abul Fateh Md Shafiqul Islam said that the area is densely populated. Fire drills will be arranged by fire service personnel. So that such incidents do not happen in the future. Fire victims are being monitored and will be given full support.

Gazipur Superintendent of Police (SP) Kazi Shafiqul Alam said: “Legal action will be taken against those who violate the framework of the law. Those who sell gas cylinders will be checked whether their pares are correct or not.”

A total of 32 individuals are currently hospitalized due to the cylinder explosion. Among them, five patients are in the intensive care unit (ICU) and two in the high-dependency unit (HDUs). Out of the total patients, 16 have severe burns covering more than 50% of their bodies, the minister also said.

The individuals, including women and children, sustained burn injuries after a gas cylinder exploded in Gazipur's Kaliakair on Wednesday.
