At least seven people, including two women, were killed as a bus rammed an autorickshaw, and a motorcycle in Pirojpur on Friday.
The deceased are Swapan Hawlader, 35, son of Modachcher Hawlader from Madarshi area of Bhandaria upazila; Md Hemayet Hawlader, son of Akkel Hawlader from Godar Hawla village of Indurkani Upazila; Naim, 19, an easy bike driver, son of Zakaria Mia from North Shankorpasha village; Mansura Begum, 35, wife of Jahangir Munshi from North Shankorpasha village; Khairul Forazi, son of Idris Forazi from North Shankorpasha village; Jesmin Akter, 30, wife of Aminul Islam from Badura village, and Alamgir Mir, 28, son of Md Sultan Mir from South Namajpur area of Pirojpur.
The incident occurred on the Pirojpur-Indurkani road at around 12pm.
Pirojpur Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ashikuzzaman confirmed the incident.
The bus crashed into the autorickshaw and motorcycle on the road in Beltola area, killing seven people on the spot, said the OC.
Upon hearing the news of the accident, MP SM Rezaul Karim of Pirojpur-1 constituency shortened a local event in Nazirpur and visited Pirojpur Sadar Hospital to inquire about the families of the deceased and expressed his condolences.
