Madrasa principal sentenced to 2yrs imprisonment for supplying answer sheets

A madrasa principal has been sentenced to two years in jail for supplying photocopies of answer sheets to candidates in Shahrasti, Chandpur.

Shahrasti Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md Yeasir Arafat sentenced the principal to jail during the examination at Chishtia Islamia Alim Madrasa centre on Sunday.

The convicted teacher is Sayedul Islam, 53, the principal of Rajapura Al Amin Fazil Madrasa.

The UNO visited the Shahrasti Chishtia Islamia Alim Madrasa centre around 11:30am. He kept his used official vehicle away and entered the centre on foot.

At that point, the office assistant, cleaner, and a few teachers at the centre started to panic upon seeing him.

He doubted that some form of irregularity and dishonesty was going on so he searched the examination room and the examinees.

Later, numerous handwritten answer sheets were found outside the examination room and within the premises of the centre.
The authorities present at the centre were questioned about this. During the interrogation, it was revealed that the Principal of Rajapura Al Amin Fazil Madrasa Sayedul Islam had brought 25-30 photocopies of the answer sheet.

His mobile phone was searched and the picture of the answer sheet found outside the examination hall was found on it.

The convicted principal said that one of his students solved this and sent it to him on WhatsApp. Later, he printed the answer sheets in the centre’s printer and distributed them from room to room.

UNO Md Yeasir Arafat said: "As the teacher pleaded guilty, he was sentenced to two years' imprisonment without labour and a fine of Tk1,000, and one month's rigorous imprisonment if the fine was not paid, in accordance with Section 9 (a) of the Public Examinations (Offences) Act, 1980."
