Police on Sunday detained a madrasa teacher for raping a student in Bandarban.
The detainee, Abdullah Anwar, was held from the madrasa in the district’s Ramu upazila.
The rape survivor’s father said his son was raped by the teacher for over 1.5 years, but they did not want to disclose the matter. However, after Saturday’s incident, when his son told him about the matter again, he informed the police.
Abdul Jalil, officer-in-charge of Bandarban Sadar police station, said the accused was detained on the basis of a complaint filed by the rape survivor’s father.
According to locals, the teachers of the madrasa tie the legs and hands of the students while teaching.
A few months ago, a student of the madrasa, unable to bear the torture, ran away from the institution with chains tied to his hands and feet.
