Bailey Road fire: Families in Bhola mourn loss of 2 young lives

Families in Bhola district's Sadar upazila are engulfed in grief following the demise of two young men, whose lives were abruptly ended by a ferocious fire on Bailey Road.

The community is in search of closure after the burial of Md Nayan, 19, and Emdadul Haque, 24, whose futures were extinguished in the calamity.

Md Nayan, the youngest of six siblings, had recently moved to Dhaka, embarking on a new chapter as an assistant cook at Kacchi Bhai, aiming to support his family financially. His venture turned fatal when he was caught in the blaze that ravaged the building.

Nayan's family, residing in Char Kumaria village, was shattered upon learning of his untimely death, hours after the fire. His mother, Nazma, and father, Md Siraj, were left to mourn the loss of their son, grappling with the void his absence has created.

Emdadul Haque, a Masters student at Stamford University, met a similar fate.

Emdad, alongside three friends, visited the same ill-fated restaurant to celebrate the completion of their final exams. The joyous occasion turned tragic when a sudden explosion sealed their escape route.

Emdad's last communication with his family was a promise to return home, a promise he couldn't fulfil.

His body, later identified by a distinctive ring at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital morgue, brought a sombre reality back to his village home, where his family and friends gathered to lament the promising life cut short.

The village of Emdad, son of retired government official Mainul Haque Harun, was shrouded in sorrow as his body was returned for burial. A funeral prayer at Khalifa Patti Jam-e-Mosque preceded his interment at Kalibari graveyard, marking a sombre farewell to a life brimming with potential.

As the families navigate through their grief, the community stands in solidarity, echoing their call for answers and accountability in the wake of this devastating incident.

In this regard, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Bhola Tamim Al Yamin said that the district administration is with the family of the deceased in the accident and will assist them in any need.

On the other hand, it has been reported that two more students of Bhola have died in that fire. They are Dola and Mahi, of Guptaganj Bazar in Syedpur Union of Daulatkhan upazila. They got settled in Dhaka 20 years ago.
