Transport workers in Sylhet on Wednesday withdrew their indefinite strike which was called to press home their five-point demand, including an end to the gas crisis.
After an hour-long meeting at the deputy commissioner's office in the afternoon, the leaders announced the withdrawal of the strike.
Sylhet District Road Transport Divisional Committee President Haji Moinul Islam confirmed the matter.
Following the assurance of the administration to solve their gas problem, they decided to withdraw the strike.
Transport leaders started the meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Sheikh Russel Hasan around 2:30pm on Wednesday.
Later, City Corporation Mayor Md Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury participated in the meeting.
They went on strike around 6am to press home their five-point demand including a solution to the gas crisis in CNG filling stations which triggered immense suffering to commuters.
For a long time, the approved load at CNG pumps in Sylhet runs out after 18 to 20 days of each month. This causes extreme suffering for the drivers of CNG-run vehicles, according to transport workers.
On Sunday, transport workers staged a human chain at the city's Court Point, demanding the removal of all obstacles and restrictions on CNG loading of all CNG-run vehicles in Sylhet district.
