At least three people were killed and two others injured as a speeding truck crashed into a battery-run autorickshaw in Gazipur’s Kaliakair upazila on Monday morning.
The incident took place at around 6:30am on the Dhaka-Tangail highway.
The deceased have been identified as Saikat, 35, Jahidul Islam, 37, and Mokbil, 65. The injured were identified as Abbas, 65, and Ramzan, 50.
Kaliakoir police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Amzad Hossain confirmed the matter.
He said the members of the fire service and police rescued the people and took them to Kumudini Hospital, where doctors declared three of them dead upon arrival.
The rest are undergoing treatment at the hospital, he said, adding that all the victims were passengers of the autorickshaw.
Naojhor Highway police station OC Shahdat Hossain said they have seized the truck but its driver managed to flee.
