Woman, underaged daughter raped in Subarnachar

A woman and her underaged daughter have been raped by a three-member thief gang in Subarnachar upazila in Noakhali. 

Two of the thieves gang-raped the woman and one of them raped her daughter, who is a fifth grader. 

At that time, a pair of gold noserings, earrings and Tk17,225 were stolen from the house.

The incident took place at a new house in Charkaji Mokhles village around 2am on Tuesday.

According to police and locals, the woman was living with three of her children at that house and her husband was away for work. 

At around 2am, the thieves entered the house, tied the housewife's hands, feet, and face, and stole the gold and cash from the house. 

Hearing their screams, the neighbors cordoned off the house and informed the matter to Charjabbar police station, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam. 

The OC said they remained at the site till early morning. “A case will be filed and we are trying to identify the accused to arrest them.”

On Monday, a court sentenced 10 individuals to death and six others to life imprisonment in connection with the rape of a housewife in Subarnachar upazila on the night of the 11th general election on December 30, 2018.

Noakhali Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 2 Judge Fatema Ferdous on Monday also imposed a fine of Tk 50,000 on each convict. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional two years of imprisonment.

The incident involved the gang-rape of a mother of four by 10 to 12 individuals, allegedly for not casting votes for their preferred candidate, according to the rape survivor.

The next day, on December 31 of that year, her husband filed a case with the Charjabbar police station under the  Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

On March 27, 2019, the Detective Branch of police pressed charges against 16 people, including expelled Awami League leader Ruhul Amin.
