Three people were arrested for gang-raping a speech-impaired woman in Kamarkathi of Nesharabad upazila in Pirojpur.
The accused are Md Anwar Hossain, Md Rakib Hossain, 23, and Md Yunus Mia, 35.
The victim, filing the case as the plaintiff, reported the incident, leading to the arrest of the accused, who were presented before the Pirojpur court on Saturday morning.
The alleged rape occurred on the evening of December 25, 2023, and a case was officially filed on Friday night.
Initially, the police had shared information about the incident at the police station, but a written complaint had not been received until a month later, prompting an investigation upon receipt of the formal complaint.
According to the affidavit, the victim's husband was fishing in the river from Rakib's trawler, and Anwar Hossain had previously made inappropriate proposals to the victim.
On the evening of the incident, Rakib called her behind Ibrahim's living room, where Anwar and Yunus emerged, forcibly raping her consecutively. Yunus guarded the door during the assault, and after the incident, the victim was threatened not to disclose the events.
Upon learning of the incident, the victim informed her relative Rubel Hosan, who, in turn, reported the matter to UP member Md Nurul Amin. Despite attempts to settle the matter outside legal channels, Nurul Amin advised the victim to file a case with the police, resulting in the formal complaint.
Nurul Amin, the UP member, said: "The victim woman came to me. I advised her to go to the police station. Then the police station filed a complaint. Even the accused came to me for a settlement. I did not dare to solve the rape issue alone."
The investigating officer of the case, OC (Investigation) of Nesharabad police station, HM Shahin, mentioned that the case was registered on Friday night upon receiving the complaint. The accused were subsequently arrested and presented before the Pirojpur court on Saturday morning.
