A meat seller was killed by his business rival for selling meat at a cheaper price at Arani Bazar in Rajshahi's Bagha upazila on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Mamun Hossain, 30, son of deceased Rahim Uddin of Piadapara village of Arani municipality.
According to locals, Mamun was selling beef at Arani Bazar for Tk650 per kg. Just beside him, his cousin Khokon was also selling beef for Tk700.
During a heated altercation between the two over price, Mamun was fatally stabbed by Khokon in broad daylight.
Locals rushed Mamun to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
Abdus Salam, who works at Khokon’s shop, said that Mamun and Khokon used to do business together. Just a few days ago, they separated their businesses.
Bagha Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam said that following the altercation, Khokon fled the scene. Legal action will be taken in this connection.
