An Awami League supporter, who suffered bullet injuries in a clash centring national polls in Kumarkhali Upazila in Kushtia three days ago, died in a hospital in Dhaka on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Ziar Hossain, 45, son of kendo Sheikh, resident of Ber Kalwa village of Kaya Union of the upazila.
He died around 4:30pm on Monday while undergoing treatment at National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (Nitor), also known as Dhaka Pangu Hospital.
Ziar Hossain's younger brother Yarul Islam confirmed the death.
Kumarkhali police station Officer-in-Charge Md Akibul Islam said he has heard the news of Ziar Hossain’s death.
Yarul said the supporters of an independent candidate (Truck symbol), led by former UP member Khalek and his three sons Ripon, Liton and Shipon, shot and injured his two brothers on Friday for casting votes for Boat.
Another brother, Altaf Hossain, is undergoing treatment at the same hospital in Dhaka.
They were first admitted to Kushtia General Hospital. As their condition was critical, they were transferred to Dhaka for better treatment.
Kaya Union Parishad Chairman Md Ali Hossain said Zia was shot by opponents for supporting the Awami League.
Following the clash, a case was filed with the police station against 14 people. Police are conducting raids to arrest the accused.
