Sheikh Akram Hossain, a defeated independent candidate from the Khulna-5 seat, claimed that the activists of the Boat symbol had assaulted his men, and vandalized their homes.
“Since the election, my opponent Narayan Chandra Chanda’s (Boat) activists have been assaulting my agents, workers and supporters. They have also vandalized and looted their homes,” he said at a press conference at the Khulna Press Club on Tuesday.
He claimed that one of his agents, Sabina Begum, was assaulted by a group led by Chairman Suranjit Boidda. “They vandalized her home and destroyed the pictures of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Bangabandhu.”
Akram Hossain alleged that several of his supporters including Tuhin Sheikh, Adam Sheikh and others were severely injured following the assault carried out by Boat activists.
He also claimed that the Boat activists exploded crude bombs in different places of Fultala upazila and Dumuria upazila.
“On the eve of the election, bombs were exploded in different places of Mashiali, Damodar, Fultala Sadar, and Jamira unions. Voter turnout was low as these incidents created panic among the locals. And that is why I was defeated. Still, I accepted my defeat, as we are both candidates from the Awami League family,” he added.
