Over 50 crude bombs explode in Habiganj

Habiganj witnessed more than 50 crude bomb explosions in different places of the town on Saturday night ahead of the 12th parliamentary election scheduled to be held on Sunday.

The bombs exploded in various places including the district election office, said Ajay Chandra Dev, officer-in-charge (OC) of Habiganj police station.

Besides, a clash between police and supporters BNP and other like-minded political parties, took place at Poil Road in the Shayestanagar area of Habiganj district around 8pm.

At that time, two motorcycles and a temporary office of an Awami League candidate were burnt. The supporters of the BNP  and other like-minded political parties also vandalized a workshop during the clash.

Three crude bombs exploded in the district election office but no one was injured, locals said.

Police fired 50 rounds of tear gas cells and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.

The situation is now normal, added the OC.
